Discover

Paid opportunity drills — a structured idea validated against evidence before it becomes a product.

Discover is the front door for new ideas: a structured opportunity drill that pressure-tests an idea against market evidence BEFORE it earns a place in your portfolio.

What a drill is

You describe the idea; the drill walks the 12-criterion opportunity scorecard's territory — painful problem, clear ICP, paid market, buildable MVP — and produces a draft assessment with sources. It costs credits (priced on the drill's depth, shown before you run it).

The honesty rule — AI drafts, founders decide

Everything AI writes in a drill is a draft, marked as such and excluded from evidence until you verify it. The scorecard criteria the drill scores are suggestions with sources — the founder-owned ones (especially #12, "founder wants to build") are NEVER written for you. Adopting a drill into the portfolio copies its research into a new product's Playbook as drafts; verifying each criterion on the real scorecard is what turns them into evidence.

Watchlists (PARKED)

Parked 10/29 by the founder. The tab is hidden from Discover; the machinery (tables, repo, actions, parsers, tests) stays. This section describes the feature for when it's un-parked.

Watchlists are the passive side of Discover: you watch a keyword, and the system pulls the latest public signals from Hacker News (via the Algolia HN Search API) and GitHub issues (via GitHub's official search API) — both free, stable, official APIs. Hit Refresh to pull the latest; each signal carries its provenance (title, link, date, verbatim excerpt), and re-found signals never duplicate.

Promote moves a signal into the pipeline at Research stage — the signal's verbatim excerpt and source URL become the record's notes, tiered as a complaint (the honest floor: a story or issue is a lead, not proof). Promotion keeps the signal linked to the record, so the provenance history survives.

New signals ring the notification bell (mute the "Watchlist signals" type in the bell → gear if you want silence). Watchlists are never scraped — no live scraping, ever, by design; Reddit is deliberately absent until it can arrive via its official API as a surfaced metered cost.

From drill to product

When a drill survives contact with reality, adopt it: the product is created with the drill linked (the Overview shows "Drilled from Discover · view the original draft" — the ledger keeps what you paid for). The portfolio's gates take over from there: nothing advances on assertion. Discarded and superseded runs collapse into an archive section at the bottom of the ledger (restorable — the credits receipt and the paid draft stay forever), and re-drilling an open idea marks the older drill Superseded so the ledger always shows one live draft per idea.

Research reports read in the two-tab report viewer (Report / Raw markdown) — the same viewer the product's Build section uses for the source research report and the Build It PRD, so every paid report reads the same way everywhere. Each viewer also exports: Download .md (free), Download PDF via the shared report pipeline (metered — the research run's saved archive document is the PDF source), and Print (report-only printout).

The ledger's view is the receipt: exactly what you paid for, read-only. The living copy lives in the archive (and the product's Reports + Build surfaces) — edit it freely there when you spot something to correct; the ledger keeps the original, and PDF exports render the edited copy.
